Sunset Bar & Grill is NOW a new favorite for me and The Boo—such a cute little place located in Del Mar, right by the beach. We sat in the bar right next to the sliding glass door where we got a great ocean breeze and VIEW! To start we had the Grilled Pizetta

0822091820[1]Goat Cheese Spread, Marinated Tomatoes, Caramelized Onions, Spinach, Toasted Pine Nuts

I’m not a HUGE cheese fan; however, I have recently discovered the deliciousness that is  Goat Cheese, and this for sure confirmed my recent obsession—the appetizer definitely set my expectations high for what was to come.

After a glass of wine I got the

Cilantro-Jalapeno Hummus with Pita Chips & Fresh Veggies and another side of the sautéed fresh veggies.

When it all came out I asked for another side of raw veggies to dip in the hummus since I was way more excited about those than the pita chips (which ended up being delicious as well.)

Everything was delicious! The Boo had a Turkey Club on Whole Wheat—I snuck a taste and it was seriously SO good—the perfect amount of turkey, bacon and avocado in one bite. YUM!

We’re already looking forward to going back as we enjoyed not only the food, but the beachy, laid back atmosphere as well (I’m a sucker for that)—it’s definitely a new Del Mar GOTO for us.

Sunset Bar & Grill Check it out!

Today is a GREAT day! 6 months NO SMOKING! Ah I really can’t believe how fast time has gone by—the 1st week was pretty rough and I honestly didn’t know if I’d get this far. But now I can say that I DON’T miss it one little bit and I couldn’t be happier about making the decision to quit! The only thing that got me through the 1st month was exercise—every time I felt the urge to smoke I’d get up and DO something, something active, something that made me realize how good it felt to BREATHE! 6 months later I love this new active, healthy lifestyle and I feel confident in saying that I’ll never smoke again.

This was a big weekend—6 months no smoking and yesterday The Boo and I celebrated our 2 year ANNIVERSARY! :)Love ya BOO! We had an aaaaamazing dinner at Brigantine Restaurant in Poway, I had Broiled Scallop and Shrimp Skewers with a double order of veggies

I obviously hated it…

HA Just Kidding–it was so DELICIOUS! Went very well with my glass of Riesling 🙂

The Boo had an amazing Seafood Combo that he pretty much devoured as well

Before dinner the waiter brought out a HUGE basket of bread which is my weekness–I really could eat bread all day long! So we both had a small piece and asked the waiter to take the basket so we didn’t fill up before the food came out.

After dinner we went to our favorite Self Serve Frozen Yogurt joint in Carmel Mountain–Frutti Tutti=HEAVEN! Such a great night, can’t wait to spend many many more years with The Boo!

Guess what I’m making tonight….VEGAN cookies! 🙂 Stay Tuned…

Last night for my birthday The Boo took me to The Barrel Room which is a wine bar and bistro located in Rancho Bernardo. I insisted that we go as I’ve done many times since our fist visit—I haven’t been able to get enough, not only of the food but the wine and atmosphere as well. It’s a cozy, romantic setting fit for any intimate occasion and their menu is to die for. Not only do they have a large selection of appetizers, main dishes, sides and pastas—they offer a build your own Panini section where you can create it by choosing everything from; bread, meat, cheese, toppings, and sauce.

We started with an order of their Fried Calamari, our usual choice and some of the best tasting Calamari I’ve had. OK so it’s not the healthiest choice but when eaten in moderation sometimes you just can’t resist something so yummy!

The Boo couldn’t resist to create his own panini and ended up with Ciabatta bread filled with chicken, beef steak tomatoes, smoked mozzarella and cheddar cheese, an Italian vinaigrette dressing and red onions. I obviously had a little taste and thought it was delish—very light and tasty.

For my main dish I chose the Sugar Spiced Salmon topped with a Saffron Mayonnaise sauce—it was incredible. I was a bit hesitant as I’m not a huge fan of mayonnaise sauces, but the waitress assured me I wouldn’t be disappointed and I definitely wasn’t. It came with a side of fresh grilled veggies and garlic smashed potatoes, YUM!

Of course no meal at The Barrel Room is complete without a bottle of wine, so we definitely didn’t resist—we ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio that went very well with both of our meals. I was really excited to find out that every Sunday afternoon; they conduct wine tastings, perfect for anyone locally or visiting the area who doesn’t want to travel far for a great wine experience.

The perfect birthday meal, and once again I can’t wait to go back!

Thank you for all of the birthday wishes! 🙂 I can’t wait to share my amazing day on Sat…it was so much fun!
